River Cruise Escapes own data 2026: data files (DRAFT, 19 Oct 2026) River Cruise Escapes, rivercruiseescapes.co.uk/press/ A record of past conditions, not a promise for any one trip. Free to quote and republish with a credit and a link to River Cruise Escapes. FILES data-nile-heat.csv: one row per month. Luxor and Aswan: years used, first and last year, days counted, average high (C), and the share of days (%) whose highest reading was above 35 C and above 40 C. The Luxor and Aswan columns come from airport hourly reports (NOAA ISD) and are as read, not adjusted. The last four columns give Aswan's longer daily-maximum record (NOAA GHCN-Daily) for reference; it covers a different era from Luxor's. data-eclipse-2027.csv: 2 August 2027 at Luxor Temple area, Luxor airport, Aswan city and Aswan airport. Times: checked 20 Oct 2026 against NASA GSFC Besselian elements and path table (eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEpath/SEpath2001/SE2027Aug02Tpath.html); times are UT. Eclipse Predictions by Fred Espenak, NASA's GSFC. sun_diameter_covered is the fraction of the Sun's diameter covered at the greatest point; sun_area_covered_approx_pct is the share of its visible area (about). data-fcdo-egypt-by-year.csv: changes listed in the FCDO's change history by year and the number of distinct dates. 2018 and 2026 are part years. data-fcdo-egypt-changes.csv: every entry with its date and the FCDO's note word for word. The last column marks the 8 entries that, by our reading, changed which areas the FCDO advises against. It is our reading of the wording, not an FCDO category. data-rhine-kaub-low-water.csv and data-danube-hofkirchen-low-water.csv: share of days (%) whose daily average gauge reading was under each level, by month, 2000 to 2025. Gauge readings, not water depth. WSV marks: Kaub 77 cm (GlW); Hofkirchen 207 cm (RNW), 194 cm (MNW), 166 cm (NW). 100, 60 and 40 cm at Kaub are our sensitivity levels. data-low-water-by-year.csv: lowest daily average and lowest single reading, and days under the main mark, for each year. 2026 runs to 18 October (291 days). data-daylight.csv: average hours of daylight a day by month, calculated. chart-*.svg: the charts and the eclipse path map (SVG). chart-nile-heat-luxor.svg is the large Luxor chart; chart-nile-heat-by-month.svg adds Aswan. share-luxor-heat, share-luxor-eclipse, share-rhine-kaub-november (.png 1200 x 675 and .svg): three images for a story, drawn from the data. Free to use with a credit. img/hero-nile-luxor.jpg: the page photograph. The Nile at Luxor by Diego Delso, CC BY-SA 4.0, via Wikimedia Commons (see licences.md). Resized (the page shows it cropped); share the resized copy under the same licence. licences.md: the licence and source record for the photograph and the drawn images. DATA CREDITS - Heat: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), Integrated Surface Database (hourly reports, Luxor International and Aswan International airports) and Global Historical Climatology Network Daily (Aswan station EG000062414, Qena station EGM00062403). Modified: highest daily readings selected, counted against thresholds and averaged into monthly shares. Readings outside the US are not redistributed; only our monthly shares are published. - Eclipse: Eclipse Predictions by Fred Espenak, NASA's GSFC (eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov), Besselian elements and path table for the total solar eclipse of 2 August 2027. Modified: place-by-place times, lengths and coverage calculated by us. - FCDO advice: Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Egypt travel advice change history, GOV.UK content API, read 19 October 2026. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Modified: entries counted by year and by date. - Rivers: Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsverwaltung des Bundes (WSV), PEGELONLINE, raw water-level data, Kaub and Hofkirchen. Datenlizenz Deutschland Zero 2.0 (dl-de/zero-2-0). Modified: cleaned, averaged by day and counted against WSV marks. Raw data unchecked by the operator. - Daylight: calculated by us from NOAA's general solar position equations. No outside data. CAVEATS - Heat shares are as read from hourly airport reports and may run slightly low against a thermometer's true daily maximum. - Luxor is derived from hourly reports because NOAA's daily archive has no Luxor station. Qena (11 to 13 years a month) is a cross-check only. - Counts of FCDO changes are counts of entries in a change history; they say nothing about what any change meant for a traveller. - A gauge reading is not the depth of the water. No gauge reading is a level at which cruises stop. The raw gauge data is unchecked by the operator. - Single years (2018, 2022, 2026) are events, not rates. 2026 is not finished. - A record of past conditions, not a promise for any one trip.
