About River Cruise Escapes

Checked October 2026

River Cruise Escapes helps you plan a river cruise from the UK, river by river. The Nile comes first, then the Danube, the Rhine and the Douro. The pages cover routes, cabins and decks, and which months suit which river. They cover what a cruise fare includes and what it leaves out. They also explain how the hotel stays and transfers either side of the sailing fit together. When you're ready, our travel team at The JLT Group plans the cruise with you and books it.

Why this site exists

A river cruise holiday is more than the ship. There are hotel nights before and after, and the transfers in between. There are excursions outside the fare, and the deck your cabin is on. Most of that is spread across many brochures and web pages. This site pulls it into one place, in plain English. Then you know what to ask before you talk to anyone about booking it.

How the pages are built

Every page starts with a list of the facts the page will use. Each fact is traced back to where it came from. The sources fall into four kinds:

  • cruise lines' own pages, such as their published itineraries and FAQs, with the line named in the sentence
  • UK government pages, including FCDO travel advice quoted with its date
  • sellers' own pages, credited by name
  • counts from published traveller reviews (Jan 2023 to Oct 2026)

A cruise line's or seller's page is that company talking about itself. So it's credited to them, never passed off as ours.

Every page carries a "Checked" date with the month and year. Fares, ships and entry rules change, so the date matters.

This describes reviewers, not your chances of enjoying any one cruise, and it is not a rating of any ship or line. A few clear “no” answers were coded as not saying, so the yes share runs a little high. Base: 1,329 published traveller reviews we analysed, posted Jan 2023 to Oct 2026. Checked October 2026.

Method: from published traveller reviews posted Jan 2023 to Oct 2026 we kept the 1,329 about a river cruise, then counted the reviewers of Nile cruises who said whether they would go again. An independent reader checked a sample of the coding and recomputed every count.

You won't find testimonials here. A testimonial would need a real traveller behind it.
