The rules below are each cruise line's own, read on its UK site on 20 October 2026. Terms change, so ask for the rule for your sailing.
Is there a minimum age on a Nile cruise?
Each line sets its own. The two lines below publish one, and both are high.
- AmaWaterways. Its general booking terms set a minimum age of 4 for most sailings, and 12 for Africa, Egypt and Southeast Asia, unless the line agrees otherwise. The clause covers the line's terms as a whole and does not name its Nile ships.
- Viking. It says it takes no children under 18. That's on a page about the line as a whole, not its Egypt sailings in particular.
Other lines our travel team books may set a different age, or none. So ask for the rule in writing, for the named ship, before you choose.
Can a child share our cabin?
On AmaWaterways, anyone under 18 shares a cabin with an adult and must be supervised at all times, under the same terms. The person making the booking must be 18 or over.
Cabin sizes differ from ship to ship. Ask whether a cabin for three or four exists on yours, and what the extra bed is. Our page on river cruise cabins covers what to ask about the cabin itself.
Is a Nile cruise a good trip for children?
That depends on the children. The days start early for the temples, and the hot months run hot. Our page on a day on a Nile cruise shows the pace, and the best time for a Nile cruise shows how hot each month gets.
Questions to ask before you book with children
- What is the minimum age on this ship, in writing?
- Must a child share a cabin with an adult?
- Is there a cabin for three or four on this ship?
- What does a child pay?
- Which visits suit children, and how long is each on foot?
Put the children's ages in the form below, so our travel team can check the rule for each line.
